Kirkland Downtown’s Winterfest Opening Ceremony

and

Small Business Saturday

December 19, 2016

The Kirkland community gathered at Peter Kirk Park, to enjoy band members from Kirkland Middle School, musician Geoffrey Castle, and our very own Santa.  Included in the festivities were such fun activities as a snow slide for the kids.

Councilmember Penny Sweet kicked of Small Business Saturday by reading a proclamation by the Mayor, Amy Walen.  Barbie Collins Young celebrated Kirkland’s wonderful volunteers who give up hours of their time to put together the holiday decoration wreaths seen around town, and DJs who filled the streets with music while the rest of the community was busy supporting Kirkland’s local businesses.

Councilmember Penny Sweet explained why the Peter Kirk Park was chosen for the Tree Lighting and the celebrations: because that corner of the park is going to be dead center of the downtown area once Kirkland Urban and the Antique Mall construction is completed.

Tree lighting was conducted by Mayor Amy Walen as the community counted down the magical event.
